while most of the villages these days have an alcohol shop at their entry , Chak 6M, my ancestral village in district Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan has a devi temple at its entrance. The temple was contructed few years ago by a family of zamindars who had only sons in their family no daughters. They prayed to devi for a daughter. Finally a daughter was born but she was about to die out of some illness when she was one year old. The zamindars prayed to the devi that if their daughter survives they would build her temple in the village. The daughter ofcourse was saved. The village thus got its devi temple.
